I-64 East was just miserable today ( Saturday, April 14,2012 ) . It was a six mile back up if stop/ start Interstate Traffic .

Saturday , April 14,2012 on I-64 East between 2:08 PM to 3:PM Eastern , what usually takes me 15 to 20 minutes commute time, this commute today took over twice plus as long due to a 6 mile back up . It was a commute from hell.
The is part #1 of two parts . Could not load all photos in one blog , tried twice even over Wifi it crashed the app . Damn .

City Jail Inmates under direction of a few City Sheriff Deputees keep some inmates earning their keep

City Jail Inmates Working down around Station #7 today ( Saturday, April 14 ) cutting grass, weed wacking , blowing the cut weeds away , making a mess while two armed City Sheriff Deputees look out .

With the Construction of Interstate Highway major repairs / rebuilds this weekend here on I-664 at the MMMBT facility in SE Va. And since we have North Bound traffic closed , good time to shoot a video or two . The Bridge Tunnel Facility has been open for public use the month of April 2012 marks 20 years and our pot hole ridden highways both North and South have needed major repairs for years. So, VDOT is finally doing it right . Closed the facility one direction each weekend having the contractors literally dig up the old 20 year roadway and replacing it with fresh new Asphalt . This weekend is the second weekend consecutively that half of the facility has been closed to traffic . Thus doing it right.
Here are my weak attempts to document part of the work .

This weekend ( March 30 thru April 2 ) North bound I-664 at the MMMBT facility is closed due to Roadway repairs and Fresh Asphalt roadway being laid down. Six photos and one 15 second video predawn time Saturday morning is my attempt to chronicle same activity.

Saturday, March 17,2012 .. The Shift Super started complying with his Admin. people over him in doing Twice yearly Employee Evals . Mine rarely ever changes, had one comment of "Exceeding Expectations" and the rest of the comments " Meeting Expectations" as per usual . Nothing new to date on the Eval . Good I said !!

The day I took a couple new Photos of Terminal Ave. #7 Inspection Station a Construction Company brought it's "Ditch Witch " crane down to the across the street parking lot and gave me something to watch for a little while . Photo included of Ditch Witch crane .

I was on Station #9 South Bound at the North End of the I-664 facility today and here's some Foto's of a few Wide Loads that entered the South bound Inspection lane on Station #9.

Today at one point time there was a small convoy of three Wide Loads on Inspection Station #9 waiting on our wrecker driver to arrive to escort them South . Love a Convoy of any size of wide loads. Impressive to me. Had two wide loads hauling wide steel bridge beams I was told and one wide load was a crane . Cranes are almost weekday occurrences here .

Today, Thursday morning , Feb.23, a young Female lone Driver/ occupant of a Dodge SUV while traveling South on I-664 in Newport News, Va. approx. 10:40 AM Eastern rolled out of the South bound lanes onto the North Island of Monitor Merrimac Memorial Bridge Tunnel . I , your humble State/ Tunnel employee walked upon her and her vehicle . She told me that she was OK and would have help coming for herself due to her suffering anxiety issues. Her vehicle was fine parked where it was and was just checking on her well being . Now 11:44 AM her anxiety issue is not reserved. Just checking is all we can do !!

MMMBT Management thru a Contractor installed a NEW thru the cinder block wall Heater & A/C both in one Unit here. Looks great if ya ask me . The contractor has the fan on it running as needed not as an all the time setting . It cuts on and cuts off automatically. As I came in the bldg at the start of the shift, Thursday, the temp. Was on 72•F . Fine for me! Photos of this new unit. PS the brand name is one I have never heard of : "Gree" !
